Mixing 3D with 2D Animation
Tea Time is an animated short film about the love for pets and tea.
This was my bachelor’s project and the goal was to go through the whole production line in order to create an animated film. My goal was to achieve a good mix of 3D and 2D elements.
The story part of the film was quite important to the project. I put great emphasis on creating a solid storyboard as well as animatic. Based on the animatic I made a detailed plan for each shot and could animate in the right time-constraints.
The 3d modeling, rigging, skinning as well as animation were done completely in 3dsMax. From there I rendered separate object passes using a custom Toon Shader and the built-in Scanline Renderer.
Over the 3D rendered animation I animated / rotoscoped the 2D-elements using Toon Boom Harmony.
At the end I composited all elements in Adobe Aftereffects.
